(4) That it is not prohibitive in being expensive. (5) That not only is the water purified bacteriologically, but its physical characters of taste, clearness and odour are much improved. Before considering whether these claims can be allowed, the modes of production and conditions of use of ozone as a sterilizing agent for water on a large scale may be described. Modes of production of ozone.?The ozone used for purifying water on a large scale is atmospheric air, the oxygen of which has been partially converted into ozone by passing it through a space (called the czonizer) in which silent electrical discharges are taking place ; or in which there is an electrical strain or stress.
